Oro — A Heritage of Unity, Culture & Progress

Nestled in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oro is more than a town it's a living legend. Located on latitude 8.13°N and longitude 4.50°E, south of the River Niger.

Our Origin

Our origins date back to the 15th–16th century, making us one of the historic Yoruba settlements in present-day Kwara State.

ABOUT US

Traditional Institution & Leadership

In the 15th century, amid a fierce chieftaincy dispute in Old Oyo, a prince named Olakanmi fled the royal household. Accompanied by family, friends, and dissident warriors, he consulted the Ifa oracle for guidance. Ifa directed him southeast to settle where he found abundant Oro trees (Igi Oro), Agbigbo birds (Eiye Agbigbo), the rhythmic pounding of mortars, and the clang of blacksmiths—all together.

Our Mission

To preserve our heritage, unite our people, and drive sustainable development that empowers present and future generations of Oro.

Our Vision

To position Oro as a model Yoruba Settlement — rooted in heritage, united in purpose, and driven by sustainable development, innovation, education, and global relevance.
